A pennant is a flag that you can display on your vessel to indicate your current staff position. A burgee is flown to indicate a previous position you have held in the Auxiliary. Neither of these are to be flown when on a patrol with an Active Duty Coast Guardsman on board. In this situation, the Coast Guard Ensign should be flown in lieu of the Auxiliary Patrol Ensign.
